ELECTROCHEMISTRY

Electrochemical reactions are chemical reactions that involve charge transfer across a conductor/solution interface. At Yan Vogel lab, we use electrochemistry as both characterization tool and driving force for chemical synthesis:

(1) Driving electrochemical reactions. We use electrochemistry as the driving force for chemical synthesis such as the conversion of CO2 into valuable products and making nanomaterials that we use as electrocatalysts.

(2) Changing materials properties. We use of electrochemistry to electronically dope semiconductor nanomaterials.

(3) Characterizing materials. We use electrochemistry to characterize our engineered electrode nanomaterials and yield information of parameters such as their active surface area, crystal orientation, conductivity, mobility and electronic structure.

(4) Determining key reaction parameters. We use electrochemistry to characterize the thermodynamics and kinetics of electrochemical reactions.
